Myths are Sabotaging your Business

Myths exist in that tricky grey area between 'it feels true on some level AND you hold a degree of doubt too'. And you straddle the two sides - often to your detriment.

Being in the realm of business (a few incarnations in by this stage) has taught me quite a few lessons - not the least has been around the myths and misconceptions that are running rampant throughout the entrepreneurial community around what it takes to be successful.

  • What being successful looks life/sound like/ feels like.

  • Tools, tricks and tips that you MUST utilise if you’re ‘serious’.

  • The type of people that are suited to business (and those that simply are not).

And it took me a long time to realise that most of these…actually ALL of these…are BS.

If you are out there currently wondering if your business is valid then you need to keep reading because it is so much deeper than if you have chosen to represent a viable product or service.

These myths that exist within your niche, your industry and even universally the space of entrepreneurship are lazy labels that serve a precious few - and no doubt are NOT what you align with.

My clients, my chosen colleagues and even myself do not fit within what is so often presented as the ‘right way to do business’.

You might not either if:

  • You aren’t interested in quick money more than lasting impact.

  • You are wanting to create a business that reflects your interests and uniqueness.

  • You aren’t willing to sacrifice your health and wellbeing.

  • You don’t resonate with the mainstream narrative in your industry.

  • You don’t look like or sound like those ‘success stories’ out there.

  • You keep ‘failing’ at following the rules or structures mentors have passed on to you.

And this is why subscribing to the Myths of business are sabotaging your success.

The way YOU want to do business is possible. Of course there are things that work and things that don’t, experimentation is necessary, you won’t ever have a perfect formula for success and you should totally get mentors and study your niche.

I was a teacher for 10 years - telling you to study and practice is ingrained in me - but I also learnt that no learner, just like no business owner, is made the same.

Give yourself the permission to hear the Myths and decide to do it your way. To claim the right now only to be in business as YOU but to make it suit you too.

What are the biggest Myths you have heard about business or your niche? Let’s call them out! (And then chuck ‘em in the bin for good.)

And if you know that this conservation needs to go further so that you can go further too, join our community over on FB.
